Throughout the year, our digitalization/automation team has been working to automate the fleet of Minetruck MT65 rigs at Agnico Eagle’s Odyssey Mine in Quebec. Last year, the team was successful in their efforts to deploy Canada's first autonomous hauler on site with the Minetruck MT42 – so this was the next project target.
The ultimate goal at Odyssey was to have a fleet of Minetruck MT65s running autonomously, with the Minetruck MT42 being an important step along the way.
Throughout the journey, Epiroc has developed the kit, features, and necessary software to achieve this latest success.
The team recently retrofitted a second autonomous Minetruck MT65 for Odyssey, which allowed for a true “meet and pass” scenario to take place.
With multiple trucks running autonomously on one single ramp, the machines will inevitably meet each other somewhere on the ramp during a shift. By utilizing the development of 3D localization within our “Deep Control” system, and with advancements in Epiroc’s software development, this ability for our trucks to meet and pass without interference was successfully demonstrated on site in early November 2025.
“I would like to thank everyone involved in getting to this point. The PC has supported with prioritized software/hardware development, as well as ensuring they were present on site at Odyssey to help drive this success,” said Seth Patterson, Business Line Manager DSD.
“I would also like to thank Mathieu Bergeron & Andrew Samuels from our Canadian team for their tireless work in making this happen. As someone who has watched this product evolve from the early stages of development, it is so impressive to see how far we have come.”
