MINE GENERATES + 84 TONNES/SHIFT BY ANALYZING THE DATA
CASESTUDY: Analysis of the data coming off an Epiroc ST14 Scooptram indicated that the least efficient Scooptram Operator was consistently taking 3 times longer to fill the bucket than his counterparts. Prior to this analysis, the Operator had been sent for 1 week re-training on three separate occasions. His results from the re-training had been only a slight improvement in the overall load, haul and dump cycle.
Listen to the Interview with Gary Ralph, Senior Mining Advisor, Epiroc Canada
Cycle time was 7 minutes (shift colleagues was 6 minutes)
14 ton/bucket x 90% fill factor = 12.66t per load
In an effective (6-hour shift x at 80% utilization) of available time the-
Regular STO = 4.8 hours / 6 min = 48 cycles per shift
Slower STO = 4.8 hours/7 min = 41 cycles per shift
**** LOST REVENUE FOR THE MINE ****
LOOSING 7 cycles x 12.6 tons = 84 tons / shift
Lost at 1% metal content = 84 kg/shift x 22 shifts per month = 1,848 kg of metal per month
LOST PRODUCTION: due to operator training x 3 weeks x 5 days = 6-hour shift x 80% utilization = 72 hours of LOST PRODUCTION TIME or 240 CYCLES LOST and 303 LOST TONNES while operator received full week’s training over 3 separate training weeks.
DIGITAL SOLUTION SAVES PRODUCTION: AFTER ANAYZING DIGITAL DATA clearly showed mine management that Operator was only slow to SCOOP the muck. They kept up with their colleagues throughout the rest of the cycle.
*** DATA SHOWED THEIR SCOOPING WAS THE PROBLEM ***
RESULT – Mine management FOCUSED 1 day with operator training on HOW TO SCOOP
OPERATOR PROBLEM SOLVED: the Operator, from that day on was able to keep up with the rest of their shift’s cycle times!
*** 9 MONTH ESTIMATED LOST REVENUE FOR MINE (1 operator) ***
LOST TONNES/ WEEK = 84t/shift x 5shifts/week x 36 weeks (9 months) x 80% Beneficiation Plant efficiency = ESTIMATED LOST REVENUE $ 1,753,920
*estimated ore value CAD $145/t
