IAMGOLD Westwood improves safety and productivity with pumpable resin

IAMGOLD Westwood have been using pumpable resin on the Boltec for the past year which has resulted in greatly increased bolt installation quality and safety at their Quebec-based underground mine.

Tommy Pilon Chaussé - Senior Development Supervisor at IAMGOLD Westwood Mine sees several advantages with pumpable resin and says that “we’ve had a big increase in productivity since adopting pumpable resin, we’re talking about 30-40% more efficiency versus standard resin”. He further highlights the safety aspect of the resin injection system which “has greatly improved the health and safety of workers at the Westwood mine”

Joseph Bérubé who is working as a mechanical engineer at the mine emphasizes the increased safety as he says that the system “eliminates direct contact with the injectable resin, so there is no risk of toxicity or chemical contamination. The operator remains at the back of the system and everything is done automatically”.
